LongRange Trip
12/26/98 to 01/11/99
The Polaris Supreme anglers met the boat in San Diego Jan 11 after a 16- day trip to the Revillagigedos. Their fish, 150 tuna and 150 wahoo, were offloaded and the jackpot settled with a weigh-off.
The trip's biggest fish wasn't in the pool. It weighed 237 pounds and was taken by Byron Shovlain of San Diego, who fished a chunk bait on a Mustard 7691 hook in the 8/0 size, on 80-pound blue Izorline. He used a Tiagra 50 reel and a Shimano six-foot rod. "I got it in about 40 minutes," said Shovlain. "It's the biggest one I ever caught, and I couldn't have got it in with out the crews coaching."
1st place
Mark Pyle of Vista, for a 181.3 lb. tuna
2nd place
Marvin Pridemore of Rathdrum, ID 155 lb. Tuna
3rd place
Craig Johnston of Costa Mesa, for a 125.9 lb. yellowfin.

| Long Range Fishing |
The areas we did fish on these trips include Hurricane Bank, Clarion, Socorro, San Benidicto and Roca Partida. The yellowfin tuna grow to tremendous size and several world records have been taken from these waters recently. The wahoo fishing is excellent, the best to be found anywhere. Rainbow runners, dolphin and several species of jacks and marlin are also taken. That 400 pound grand daddy yellowfin tuna is down there and I just have to keep trying.
I had to miss the last 2 year of fishing, the first time in about 25 years of fishing long range. We had the family up here to Idaho for Christmas and I couldn't run out on them, not that I didn't think about it. There is always next year, but on March 18, 2001 Mexico temporarily slamed the door on long range island (Clarion, Socorro, San Benidicto and Roca Partida) trips to the famous big tuna fishing grounds on the Revillagigedos Archipelago.
Pictures taken on the Dec. 26, 2000/01.
It was a special charter for Davis Brothers Framing on the Supreme. Only nine (9) passengers on this trip made for some nice fishing.
